Called District Conference -- July 12, 2010

I am announcing a District Conference on Monday evening, July 12th at 7 PM for the purpose of approving Camp Guilrock securing a loan for renovation of the Wesley Pavilion at the camp. All annual conference delegates in the Greensboro and Northeast Districts will be allowed to vote on this action.

Their Board of Directors has approved this. The loan is for $175,000 and land at Camp Guilrock will be put up for collateral. The will be a joint district conference with the Northeasat district delegates as the camp is jointly owned between us. This district conference is in accord with #2516 in The Book of Discipline which states:

Title to annual conference or district camps, conference grounds, and retreat centers held in trust by an incorporated board or agency of annual conference or district, or by an unincorporated board, commission, society, or similar body of the conference of district, can be mortgaged or sold and conveyed by such corporation or unincorporated body only after authorization by the annual or district conference to which such body is related.

The purpose of this district conference is to authorize the board’s proposed transaction.  The Rev. Dr. Sam Moore (Northeast District Superintendent) and I look forward to greeting you. This also may give some of you an opportunity to see our camp for the first time.
