Camp GuilRock has been very busy during 2010 with over 6000 visitors to our campus in southern Rockingham County. During 2010, our Board of Directors adopted a new mission statement that reads: “The mission of GuilRock United Methodist Camp, Inc. is to build a base camp for retreat, recreation and service, founded on Christian ministry and with emphasis on nature conservation, as we discover Creation, experience God, and grow in Faith.”
We anticipate a very busy and active 2011 as we continue to renovate our Wesley Pavilion into a new meeting/dining hall, complete with a brand new kitchen and two brand new bathrooms. This building is the first phase of a long range vision to allow Camp GuilRock to host groups like Carolina Cross Connection, host community dinners and events, host various civic and church groups that need a large meeting room and food service, and host a variety of other groups that would like a large meeting room and the comfort of an enclosed structure.
To our great satisfaction, and as a result of this renovation, Carolina Cross Connection will hold a college age service week during the last full week in May, 2010. (A link to an application and information about this week is: Carolina Cross Connection www.carolinacrossconnection.org)
We are very appreciative of the support received from the Greensboro District and the Northeast District as we have taken on this building project. We anticipate the total work to cost around $150,000.00. After approval from the two districts, following a called district conference in the late summer of 2010, a loan has been secured through Home Savings Bank in Reidsville. We believe with the help of United Methodists from both the Greensboro and Northeast districts, much of this debt can be erased soon. The camp has already deposited in the bank over $20,000.00 specifically for this project, and we are to begin paying this loan back in February, 2011. We are currently drawing on a construction loan, borrowing money as it is needed, and paying only interest on the money borrowed for a period of six months. Just think, if we have 150 people/organizations commit to $1000.00 each, this debt can be erased immediately. Maybe you are one, or know someone, who might consider this monetary commitment.
