Re: Haiti Response
Grace and peace in the name of the Lord! By now all pastors should have received a letter from Bishop Goodpaster concerning the Haiti quake and our conference response. In addition, we have current information on the conference web page, www.wnccumc.org and on the Missions’ Alive – WIRED page, http://sites.google.com/a/wnccumcmail.org/wncc-missions/.
Please keep abreast of what is happening. These pages are being updated several times a day. We are flooded with e-mails at this time, so please be patient if we do not respond immediately. I am in contact with other volunteer organizations and with churches wishing to work in Haiti in the future recovery efforts. Within the next week or two we will have a meeting for churches interested in being part of these efforts. It will be available in-person and on-line. More information will be sent out on this.
Haiti is in rescue mode at this time. Some relief teams will go out within the next few weeks and if we are requested to send some personnel, we will let you know. It will be some time before recovery teams are sent, but this will be an on-going activity! What is needed at this time is funding. Information for donation is posted on-line. Please note that there is a need for Health/Hygiene Kits now and in the coming future.
We have 3,000 in the pipeline for Haiti at the present time and we are asking churches to make more! Below please find the contents of these kits. Information on how to build bedding and layette kits is posted on the web pages.
Pick-up dates for the kits will be Wednesday-Thursday, January 27-28. Below please find the drop-off points and times. Please make sure all items are at the drop-off points no later than Wednesday, January 27 early AM! Please see the attachment on Health Kit including Drop-off location.
