Basic Information about United Methodist Women:

United Methodist Women are women organized for mission. We are women with a PURPOSE:

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God, and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

There are 61 local units of United Methodist Women in the Greensboro District. We have local units of all sizes…from units found in small, rural churches, to units found in large, urban churches. Our membership is intergenerational, from teen & college young women...to long time members age 100+, and everything in between! No matter the size of the local unit, or the age of its members, ALL represent women ORGANIZED FOR MISSION, and committed to the PURPOSE of United Methodist Women.

We welcome new members, and new local units, and are always excited to share about the many ways that United Methodist Women are involved in mission...making a difference, every day, in the lives of women, children and youth...around the world, and in our own community.

Highlights of Activities of the Greensboro District United Methodist Women:

• Annual District events for United Methodist Women include: Mission Study, Prayer Breakfast, Annual Meeting, Membership event, and Training for Local Officers. Program resources from the Mission Resource Center are available at all district events.
• Our District Newsletter is published quarterly, and sent to the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and circle chairs of each local unit. • District Officers are available to come and share a program at local unit meetings, and to provide information and resources.
• Many of our members participate in conference events each year: Spiritual Growth Retreats, the School of Christian Mission (held right here in Greensboro at Greensboro College), and Annual Meeting. Complete information about these events is available on our conference website at: www.wnccumw.org.
• Mission Giving: The United Methodist Women of the Greensboro District generously support mission around the world through Mission Giving. In 2008, local units of the Greensboro District sent over $94,300 in total giving to the conference. Over $78,800 of that giving was undesignated Mission Giving that will support the total program of mission funded by United Methodist Women…making a difference, every day, in the lives of women, children and youth around the world.

  Our members also participate in a variety of hands-on mission projects, providing needed supplies for persons in need…both here in Greensboro, and around the world. And, many of our local units provide support for local mission organizations through gifts directly to those organizations.
